Police Academy
So, yeah. I just saw the Academy Awards and yeah.
Should I start with the Red Carpet? Well, I don't know much about fashion and dresses so, yeah. I saw Jessica Alba though, far along in her pregnancy. Third trimester she said. Hmm. Who else. Not much really. Anyway.
I was really looking forward to the Enchanted performances and the first one was the Happy Working Song. It's such a fun song and Amy Adams performed wonderfully. Well, she started sounding nervously but finished up wonderfully. So much fun in the singing, even though she's solo up there.
I thought she'll perform That's How You Know as well. But well, she didn't. Someone else performed. The movie cast from the NY Central Park scene was there though. Oh well.
Awards, yeah I'm biased to the movies I saw and I like of course. More on the Depp movies and was hoping for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End to snag the Visual Effects Category. But The Golden Compass took it and well, I really didn't like that movie so much, so, yeah. Transformers by the way was the other nominee for the said category.
Pirates also lost to La Vie En Rose in the Make Up category. And I really though they made a good job in the third installment, but still lost.
It's a good thing Sweeney Todd won though, in Art Direction. The Golden Compass was also nominated in this category.
The Bourne Ultimatum. Woohoo! I thought Transformers would get the Sound Editing and Sound Mixing category but Bourne got both. And not only that, in Film Editing as well. I like the Bourne movies. Matt Damon actually said he's okay to do a fourth film. Hopefully, these awards would make them do one. And I wish the story would be based from the book version of the The Bourne Ultimatum. As you have known already, the movie and the book actually have pretty different stories. So, yeah. I hope they do a fourth movie.
Speaking of Sweeney Todd, they lost to the Costume category to Elizabeth: The Golden Age. Well, yeah. I think the Elizabeth movie was all set to win that award.
Casey Affleck. Hmm. He didn't got it. That Spaniard Javier Bardem got it. Actor in a Supporting Role. He's the first spaniard to be nominated I think, let alone win.
What else. Tilda Swinton. That White Witch from Narnia and Gabriel from Constantine. She got the Actress in a Supporting Role category for her performance in Michael Clayton. What's funny is that it's not only her first Oscar Nomination, but it's also her first time watching an Oscar, let alone participating in it. Yes, she never saw any of the previous Academy Awards, even just in television.
Ellen Page. Yeah, I'm sure I've mentioned this already before that I was impressed by her performance in Juno. So I was really hoping this young actress, who actually turned 21 last thursday, will get the award. But she's up against fierce competition. I actually thought Cate Blanchett will get this award but hey, that french girl Marion Cotillard got it. From her performance in La Vie En Rose.
Are french movies really good? I only saw one I think. A Very Long Engagement. Sure it's boring but I actually liked the movie. The story and the emotion. Yeah it's very good.
Going back to Ellen Page, Juno actually won for Original Screenplay category. Good job Diablo Cody. She's the out of this world writer.
So to close up the awards. Actor in a Lead Role. Yeah, I want Johnny Depp to win but I really didn't expect it this year. I think his performance in the first Pirates movie and Finding Neverland were better than Sweeney Todd. But still very good. Deserving the nomination. He's up against Daniel Day Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones this year. The other two are George Clooney and Viggo Mortensen, Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings. Daniel Day Lewis got the award by the way, his performance from There Will Be Blood.
Lastly, Directing and Motion Picture categories both went to No Country For Old Men.
So, yeah. That's it. Congratulations to all the winners. I think I'll watch Michael Clayton, and Atonement soon. No Country For Old Men, There Will Be Blood, and Eastern Promises maybe. In DVDs or wherever. Later this afternoon I hope to see the Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford.
And one last thing. How much do you think is that gigantic screen they used in the awards? Where they played Wii Sports Tennis. Yeah I'd love to have that! But then again, I would need a larger room to house it in. Hoho.
"If there's anyone out there involved in illegal movie piracy... don't do it. Take a good look at these people. These are the people you're stealing from. Look at them! Face what you've done! There are women here who can barely afford enough gown to cover their breasts." - Jon Stewart, Academy Awards, March 5, 2006
